Over the past years I have seen colleagues and friends alike trying to define my happiness in the context of themselves.
“If you don’t play basketball, you have never tasted happiness”
I have heard this a thousand times in different versions and this never worked for me. At first I thought I was the mad one, thinking that I was crazy was an upgrade. Those were my thoughts. Growing up I realized my taste buds to happiness are never the same with those of others.
I was mad, but I was crazy or mad enough to discover my personal truth. You can lie to others but don’t make the mistake of lying to yourself. Your taste buds to happiness will not always be the same to those of others. So stop following someone’s blueprint of happiness. To make things worse there are certain people who think they are happier more than you are and even feel pity for you. I am sorry we do not have a scale to measure everyone’s degree of happiness. However if that scale existed, some cadres would be shocked of what they would see.
Let’s focus on your happiness because inside yourself, is a good scale for measuring your level of happiness.
Happiness is basically a feeling, and nobody can tell you how you feel except you. Even doctors who are known for prescribing medicine cannot detect pain or feeling. Even doctors ask you how you are feeling so that they can prescribe the best medicine for your pain. They can tell you about your sickness but will they tell you how much pain you feel within your body. My point is that happiness is just a feeling as any other feeling, which is always left to be felt by you.
I can’t detect your feelings, I can’t detect your happiness, so allow no one to tell you what makes you happy. The truth is that they don’t know. What they say happiness is, is basically the projection of their happiness in their own context. They think you are like them. Introverts and extroverts alike are further classified into sub categories but still the list will never end until you position yourself for what you truly are.
I once heard a story of a divine being saying, ” I am who I am” and I am telling you today. ” You are who you are” I just dislike the fact that people can lie to themselves to the point of repeating a lie until they believe it to be true.
I don’t mind if you lie to me but never make a mistake of lying to yourself. This is your first antidote to personal development. Let me be blunt as a bravest soldier’s sword. Keep reading a lot of books in the world but if you cannot read a book called “YOU” you are going nowhere. Wisdom is knowing who you are.
